Does anyone have any experience applying for Thai DTV from Japan? I'm a resident here and intend to apply for Thai DTV under soft power to study Muay Thai. It is my understanding that different embassies have different requirement and just want to see if anyone has any experience applying from Japan.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around the experiences and requirements for applying for a Thai DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) from Japan, particularly to study Muay Thai. Participants share insights, noting that applications differ based on residency status, with one individual mentioning that non-residents may face additional obstacles, including writing a lengthy essay. It is emphasized that only Japanese citizens or permanent residents can apply within Japan, while some applicants have sought alternatives by applying from nearby regions like Taipei.

We had one person apply in Japan as a non resident and get it but apparently they had to write a long essay and it was unlikely many others would get the same treatment. This was back in August early into the DTV.

Are you sure?? I was in contact with the embassy from the start in Japan and they adamantly denied me and others the right to apply even with 20 years living in the country. Who is we? You are an agent?

I checked my messages.. he got it August 29. He had been in Japan 3 months. I am not an agent. I own a Muay Thai gym.

That does not state DTV visa and seems more of a regular tourist visa application.

That sounds about right knowing Japan! I appreciate your response

You can only apply in Japan as a Permanent Resident or Japanese citizen. I'm a long term non permanent resident in Tokyo. I went nearby to Taipei to get my DTV last Dec, met other similar Japan residents there doing the same.

Hey Andi, just an update in case anyone else runs into this situation. I’m based in Okinawa and spoke to the Thai Embassy in Fukuoka. They said it’s perfectly fine for me to apply from Japan, but I need to use the online e-visa system and choose their embassy location in the application for processing.

No Im not in the military, wife is Japanese and we wanted a break from Tokyo so we moved to Okinawa. It’s weird how Fukuoka allows it but Tokyo doesn’t. Do you think there is any downside to doing it online vs going in person (I.e Taiwan, Jakarta, etc).

Jesse Bias Tokyo Embassy is different but you are correct Fukuoka is allowing non permanent residents to apply. Hopefully Tokyo does the same. You on the US Okinawa base?

Thank you, I will look into possibly applying in Taiwan in that case!

If you apply in Taiwan for Muay Thai note you have to provide employment documentation.
