TLDR : Answer Summary
The Muay Thai DTV Visa classes vary depending on the gym, with many welcoming beginners and offering different class structures. For example, Fever Muay Thai in Chiang Mai provides group and private lessons tailored to individual needs, while Tiger Eye gym has a mixed group of participants, including those training for fitness and local fighters. Training is generally rigorous and can be challenging but is designed to accommodate various fitness levels, with supportive trainers who prioritize the learning experience. Some personal accounts emphasize the friendly atmosphere and focus on gradual endurance building, highlighting the enjoyment and cultural respect surrounding the sport.
Which region you need to be member of those Muay Thai gym?
Can give you advice until you visa done

The lessons I'm getting at Muay Thai Fever Gym are excellent. Mr Boonlai (former 2x lumpini champ) and Kru Nai (northern champion) are the trainers I've worked with most, though I've seen Mr Burklek Pinsinchai (former 2x lumpini champ) trainging others around in the gym as well.
The 2 trainers I've worked with are incredibly humble whilst providing world-class training. (Imagine being trained by Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson AND Chris Eubank all in the same gym).
Having said that I'm an overweight Biology teacher and my fitness levels were appalling 3 weeks ago. Mr Boonlai gives me lots of extra breaks to catch my breath (He's very considerate) and insists that I go slower to build my endurance slowly. It's working. I haven't yet sparred with anyone and there hasn't been any pushing from anyone for me to do so, for which I'm so grateful. The gym owner has a no tolerance policy for any kind of bullying in the gym, too.
Even though I was huffing and puffing, one of the competitive fighters (Sam) told me after the session that I had done a great job. I felt like I'd just gotten a gold star in school, lol.

The classes are strict and tiring but you will learn the Thai national sport , The trainers are very proud of their national sport and they are very skilled and they want you to be serious about training .
I went to punch it gym in koh samui as a beginner at 58 yrs old , I paid my daily fee of 400 baht and from day one I was training hard and dripping with sweat but it was great fun and I really enjoyed it but it was also very tiring and hard .
I loved wearing those Muay Thai shorts

Let me give an example of how training is at my gym, Tiger Eye. We have a mixed group of people. 40% of our members are affiliated with the United Nations, these are people who come 3-5 days a week and do a 90 minute session of Muay Thai which consists of a warm up via jumping rope, or partner drill followed by review of a technique, padwork and some exercises.
We also have in house Thai fighters who train twice a day, run in the mornings and fight every few weeks.
It depends on who you are and what your looking to get out of it. No one is going to force you to train and no one is going to treat you like it's boot camp.

It depends what gym you sign up with…
My husband and I are at Fever Muay Thai in Chiang Mai
Currently, they offer a six month group class, one time a week
We however, signed up for twice a week, private classes, and have paid more money. They are marvellous and very accommodating to our needs as we are both older.
I thought you just paid for a month's course, got the visa, then when you get here you hurt your leg and cancelled the course. I mean isn't EVERYONE getting these visas? 😆😆
They don't care. There are thousands of DTVs being issued for a whole range of reasons. You really think they're going to follow up every single visa, to make sure people are keeping their dental appointments, to make sure digital nomads really are sitting in coffee shops playing computer games, to make sure people are turning into master chefs? Seriously?
Nope. I know two people already been on DTV since the inception. One has already bounced twice. Absolutely ZERO checks. Best visa ever. Anyone can get one
Each time you bounce you get another six months, so first six months is no longer relevant

You have to live at the gym, wake up at 6am, run 10km, then jump rope for 30min, shadowbox 30min, then 100 roundhouse kicks each leg, then hit pads with a trainer for an hour, ooweee, then spare 3 guys at full power, then do a flying knee on a tiger, thats session 1. Then go eat rice and sleep a few hours. Repeat all that for session 2 in the afternoon. Then go to bed and repeat every day. Pretty simple honestly

Anonymous participant 563 You forgot the meditations. The prayers. No smoking. No Beer. No sex - not even looking at girls. And the random wake ups at night with water buckets full of ice cubes.
And honestly: the rice is not the rice we used to have. It is full with dead bugs of various kinds.
Then there are the guards that let you in and out ... if they let you out ... which you have to bribe every time.
But as you said: with a little bit of focus and determination, easy peasy!
you'll be able to find a gym you like and most should do a pretty good job with new foreigners. I'm not familiar if the DTV requires you to go to the school you attend, but I assume you'll have invested some funds to at least start out as a student at an accredited gym.
MUST attend classes as applied for... otherwise obtaining the DTV visa fraudently can be a problem. Similar happenings to the Ed Visa and Volunteer Visa brought about a crackdown and visa holders denied entry.
it's fraud in obtaining the DTV visa. Similar to the fraud in obtaining the Ed Visa and Volunteer Visas of recent years. It's going to be a problem for those who do NOT attend the courses for which they obtained the DTV visa for, IMHO
it's my opinion. Sorry to disappoint you. With the kinds of questions seen about how to get around the attendance requirements, it reminds me of the problems related directly to the Ed Visa and Volunteer Visas of recent years.
Simply get the DTV visa for whatever purpose and follow thru with whatever schedule for classes submitted to get the DTV visa, and no problems to ever worry about.
The ED and Volunteer Visas were issued by Thai immigration who were taking under the table payments from Agencies pretending to be colleges or foundations. The DTV is issued by MFA who are taking no bribes. There's a huge difference
wake up and smell the roses. The DVT visa is also being issued for significant high 5 figures payments with a Thai Visa Agent conducting all inclusive DTV Visa travel packages. Pay and get the 5 year DTV Visa, Guaranteed Entry with Fast Track Service upon arrival back into Thailand.
