First, I am grateful for all the great advice from the forum members about using the non O retirement visa (applied in Thailand) for 90 days stay...and repeating it every year.
Now my only two remaining questions are...
1. what would be visa cost for the first 90 days visa...I've heard its B2000; and,
2. If I can use the duration of 90 day stay without depositing B800,000 in a Thai bank account. Since I am not going for extending the visa for 1 year.
I'd really appreciate your advice...again.
Just curious, I was reading in some forum that there is a 90-day generic tourist visa.but I am not sure about that. Thank you so much again. Best. LK

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the costs associated with obtaining a Non-O retirement visa in Thailand for a 90-day stay, including whether the requirement to deposit 800,000 Baht in a Thai bank account applies if they do not plan to extend their visa. Community members clarify that proof of funds is necessary for the Non-O visa application and discuss the option of a regular tourist visa.

you're right, they could get the 90 day Non-O visa issued online from the thai consulate in the US before they wing their way here (and get around needing to bank the money here) BUT they specifically said in their post (๐ฎ๐ฝ๐ฝ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ถ๐ป ๐ง๐ต๐ฎ๐ถ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ) <- and I took that to mean they wanted to get the visa INSIDE the country..
The down side to getting that 90 day Non-O visa in the US before they come here is that the consulates require the mandatory health insurance (or it's listed on the website of the thai consulate in Los Angeles for the Non-O visa)

Unless you come from a country whose embassy here issues the affidavit of income from abroad notary letter you can't get the 90 day Non-O visa issued inside thailand without depositing the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only.
Doesn't matter if you're not wanting to get the year extension or not .. ๐ You need to meet the proof of funds requirement to get that non-O visa issued..
The "90 day generic tourist visa" you're talking about is just a "regular" single entry tourist visa.. It's VALID for 90 days from the date the consulate you get it from issues it and that means you have 90 days to ENTER thailand and when you do you will get stamped in for 60 days. You can get one 30 day extension on that entry for 1900baht at the immigration office (that's what gives you 90 days on a tourist visa)
was I wrong in assuming that you could apply for the 90 day Non-O before you deposited the funds then you could deposit them so long as they were there 2 months prior to applying for the one year extension?
yep if you're talking about getting the Non-O visa in country you're totally wrong ๐ , you need to meet the proof of funds BEFORE you apply for the 90 day Non-O visa at the immigration office

this isnt gonna turn into a thread of "how do I open a bank account in thailand"
It's a numbers game, you hit enough banks and you will find one that will let you open an account,
I have never met a foreigner who couldn't open an account here, just ones who hadn't tried enough banks yet
Thanks Tod. I am an American from San Francisco, California. Not sure if our embassy issues affidavit of income, but my last year's income tax document as well as the statement from my financial institution, Fidelity, would reflecting my income and investments. Not sure those documents would meet the "financial ability" part.
nope, you're out of luck.. the US embassy here stopped issuing the affidavit notary letters back on Dec 31st 2018, so you bank the 800K baht in a thai bank account in your name only to get the 90 day Non-O visa issued inside the country
OR
You go to the website of the thai consulate that serves the area where you live and read their requirements for the 90 day Non-O visa to get it from them before you come here
OR
You just get a single entry tourist visa online before you come here, get 60 days and take the one 30 day extension you're allowed for 1900baht at the immigration office where you stay
you can do what you want, (and you wanna talk to ACS (American Citizens Services ๐ ) not the embassy but believe me you're far from the first 'Murican here who thought there was a way around it, and sadly there is not ๐
All I'm doing is telling you how it works here with Americans.
If you wanna use income from abroad method to meet the financial requirements you need to transfer in to a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 65K baht a month each month, every month for the previous 12 months <- that means you can't use monthly income to get the initial 90 day Non-O visa OR the first year extension, you do that with the banked money method only
