Hello :) 

I am looking to move to Bangkok for between 3-6 months while working remotely. What would be my best / most convenient options for VISA?

From what I can tell the way it goes is:

1. Tourist exempt visa 

2. Renew at immigration office for another 30 days

3. Start borderjumping

Did I miss something?

Big thanks to each and everyone of you who took the time to answer🙏 You've been very helpful! Except the scammers, of course...

As for purpose of visit, when questioned by the e-visa application, I'll be an expat (digital nomad), but as a non-resident obtaining my funds from outside of Thailand, I am exempt from local taxes (from my knowledge).

Do I still apply for a METV (tourism?) VISA, or should I be looking into non-immigrant visas as mentioned here?

oh also search the group for "METV" to understand more about them, there's also requirements like showing multiple flights into thailand otherwise they'll just give you a single entry tourist visa.

there's only one long term visa for digital nomads (that I can recall) and I doubt you'd meet the requirements or even want to try for only 6 months. Just put that you're a tourist on your visa application.

Yeah. If aiming 6 months get the 60 day visa. Extend. Do a border run. Extend again. Do another border run for your 6 months.

60-day TR is single entry. Can only get maximum 90 days, not 6 months

METV from your home country or country you have PR in. Gets you 9 months ISH.

Get a METV, and ignore any posters saying they can "help you". They can't. They just want to scam money

Yoy can only do two border bounces in a calendar year so but getting three Visa Exempt entries back to back is going to be a red flag for Immigration and possibly deny you entry. Get a Multi-entry Tourist Visa from the country where you reside before travelling.

oh but if you are doing 2 5 month stints you gotta go 2 month visa, 30 day extension, border run, 30 day extension. Don't do 2 border runs in the first 5 months if both by land as you are only permitted 2 of them in a calendar year. So if you want 10 months total, you'll have to do it this way unless you're flying out and back on a border run. Important you know this

Depends on exactly how long you want to stay. Applying for a single entry tourist visa before you come will give you 60 days + 30 ext. + 1 visa exempt border bounce + 30 day ext. Gives you 5 months.

If you want 6 months or more then apply for a multiple entry tourist visa before coming.
