Greetings from Switzerland! Just retired and ready to move to Thailand. Just to double check O or OA? My partner is Thai and will stay with him. Multiple-entries are important. Here is the latest info from the online-visa page:

Well … I would advise you to just come in to thailand with a 6o days tourist visa … it’s much easier here … just be assure that you have send 800k to your Bank account .2 month before…

I came in with a tourist visa changed it to a non o 90 day and then you can change it to a retirement Visa which is a yearly Visa or sent you are married to a Thai you could change to a spousal Visa. For retirement Visa you need 800,000 in the bank or show 65,000 baht income coming into Thailand every month. For spousal Visa need

You can spend it. That is proof you can survive here. Just make sure it’s every month from abroad in a Thai account in your name only. Been doing it for 7 years.

what do they want to see David..

I mean….how do you indicate to them that you have 65,000 each month coming in…?

What if you send yourself 65,000 every month on WISE..?

How do you show that…?

Is it the bank book entries that they look at…?

Is this acceptable to them…?

And if it is….how many months deposits will they want to see…?

It does not matter if you are spending the 65K THB. The Thai government only wants to see 65K THB a month in income. HOWEVER, if you come from a country that issues the embassy letters, you can not use the income method.

There are two different income methods:

1. Income from overseas. This is where you receive a pension of at least 65K THB a month, every calendar month.

2. Embassy letter. This is where a person receives a letter from the embassy saying they receive a pension of at least 65K THB a month. SOME embassies no longer issue this letter (like the USA).

IF a person is from a country that issues the embassy letter, they can not use the income method to get the extension of stay.

There is a misunderstanding going on about "multiple entries", and the various visa options.

You have TWO visa options listed.

1. Single Entry Non-O visa based on being over 50 years old. This single entry visa allows you to stay in Thailand for 90 days, does not have any insurance requirements, however may require proving that you have 800K THB in local currency in a local bank.

2. Multiple Entry Non-OA visa. This multiple entry visa allows you to stay in Thailand for a year, has insurance requirements, and requires that you have 800K THB in local currency in a local bank.

FOR BOTH VISAS, you can get a one year extension of stay based on being over 50. Different immigration offices have different requirements, but you will either need 800K THB seasoned in a Thai bank account for two months before applying for the extension of stay, three months after applying for the extension of stay, and the balance can not fall below 400K THB in between. IF YOU ARRIVED ON A NON-OA VISA, the one year extension of stay requires health insurance. IF YOU ARRIVED ON A NON-O VISA, you do not need health insurance.

FOR THE EXTENSION OF STAY, you can acquire a multiple entry re-entry permit, that keeps the extension of stay alive. You can acquire that at any immigration office and some airports, and is 3,800 THB. The validity for the re-entry permit is the length of your "permitted to" stamp.
