WP3 Form question (Approval Letter from Ministry of Labour):

I'm heading to KL to apply for my non-immigrant B visa.

1. Is the WP3 Form definitely required when I apply for my B visa at the embassy in KL? My (soon to-be) employer mentioned that with previous applications from their foreign employees, they never needed this when applying for their B visa..

1. Does this maybe differ among various embassies?

the only thai consulate in the area that doesn't require a WP3 or WP1 OR a real work permit is the thai consulate in Hong Kong.

So yes, KL will wanna see the WP3 receipt

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I guess I'll wait for them to get the WP3 in order before I apply for the visa. I do not want to go to HK and try it there,..better have ALL the paperwork 100% in order before applying.

it work it the passed, maybe that is the reason rules change and get enforced. Working 3 months illegal in Thailand before you start to get things legal is not the way to do.

I did..it is mentioned there and so of course I assumed that the information there is correct. But the thing is: my employee to-be was surprised when I mentioned that the WP3 is also needed according to the checklist! Now there is not enough time left for them to get that, unless I change my flight back etc :-( . - 2 companies I know they told me they also never used the WP3 before for their employees and it always worked out (Thai companies that have been around for 10+ years here).

as Robert asked you, is it listed in the requirements on the website? <- meaning did you go TO the website and look at the requirements for getting a Non-B for the reason you are getting one?

i don't know any consulate that allows a 90 day Non-B to be applied for without a receipt of your employer having filed for a work permit for you (which is what the WP3 is).

Tod Daniels thanks for the feedback. Was this different before? My employer to-be says that when two of their employees went to get their B visas over a year ago, that paperwork was not required. - PS: This is for my first 90 days B visa, after which we will apply for my WP...so it is not yet for my 1-year visa.
