Is it normal for a Thai language school to take my daughter's passport for her education visa, and are there any fees for the 90-day reporting?

Asking about the education visa, (not sure if that's the correct name), but to learn in Thai language school. My daughter is getting this next week. She's paid for the school and the visa, they now want to take her passport off her to get the visa. Is that normal? I said she should go and collect it herself?

Also, second question, when she has to report every 90 days does she still have to pay more?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The process of taking your daughter's passport for the education visa is standard practice as the school handles the visa application on her behalf. This is done to get the visa stamped at the immigration office, and it's common for them to manage several applications daily without requiring the passport holder to be present. Regarding the 90-day reporting requirement, this is mandatory for those staying in Thailand longer than 90 days, but this process is usually free of charge.

Normal and if in country more than 90 days then yes you need to do a 90 day report... It's free

ED Visa from a school will be 90 days so no reporting

but assuming she's attending the school longer (or else why pay and do the hassle for just 3 months instead of MET or even enter on exempt and extend)... I think it's safe to assume she will be extending the visa every 90 days, at 1900b a pop.

she's got 12 months Non ED visa. I have no idea what that means.

so if she remains in country more than 90 days she needs to report her address every 90 days 👍

That would be pretty normal. They take it to the immigration office and have the visa stamped in. Usually they process many of these a day so it’s easier if the passport holder doesn’t show up.
