We are currently in Penang and are looking to head over to Thailand 🇹🇭  soon and I’ve heard that it is possible to apply for a 60 day Thai visa at the consulate in Penang. Has anyone else done this? Was it a straightforward process? Or is it easier to just get a 30 day visa on arrival in Thailand 🇹🇭 and extend it when that expires?

You should check the website for the thai consulate in penang. I've done a visa there. Usually you deliver docs in the morning of the first day and return for the visa on the afternoon of the second day. If you can avoid Bangkok Immigration, that's a good thing. It's a headache and a half.

When going to Thailand for 31 - 60 ( 90 )days, the 60 days touristvisa is the best option.

It is cheaper than visaexcempt + 30 days extension.

No need of a onward ticket ( 90 days 1 onward ), if returnticket within 60 days.

Not wasting holiday time to find, go to and waiting at a immigration office ( 90 you would need that ).

No need to leave Thailand in up to 90 days.
