I will be getting a Non Imm O (retirement) using an affidavit of income from the Canadian consulate in Chiang Mai and I wonder how long immigration considers the letter valid to apply? One week? One Month? Three months? Anyone have knowledge? I would like to have all my paperwork in hand when I return from my overseas trip to reapply. Thank you

The income affidavit letter is valid for 6 months from the date it's issued by the Embassy.

MOST immigration offices will actually let you copy it and use it for both the initital 90 day Non-O visa application AND then 2 months later the year extension (meaning you don't need to have TWO letters from your consulate)

The Canadian Consulate in Chiang Mai told us the letter was valid for 6 months. They also told us since they weren't busy to come about a week before we planned on using it. We made an appointment about a week before we planned on going. It only took about 30 minutes and most of that was spent at the coffee shop while they did the letter. Edit - they are quick to respond to emails and questions so you can ask them at

thanks, that's an odd email address. I have a letter I used for my original OA I got in Canada and I will update it when I go. What exactly did you provide them to get an affidavit? I wonder if a letter alone from my bank in Canada is sufficient as proof of income?

we had to provide the following "Please bring your original passport, any document or statement showing your income or an income tax statement, and the notary service fee of THB 1,250 in cash only”. The bank we use doesn't issue letters so used an income tax statement printed from the CRA website but had bank statements as back up.

It is a strange email but it's the one I used in November. You can also use this one

Thanks very much. Odd one for me as my CRA shows no income because I retired early and just live off my savings and dividends. Hopefully an investment portfolio statement will suffice as it did for my OA.

we are in exactly the same situation. We still file Canadian taxes on our earnings and dividends so it worked showing the summary page. Sorry can't remember the exact form.

Personally, I'd email the consulate and ask if your investment portfolio statement would work so you don't get a surprise when you get there.

The Embassies Afffidavit of income is valid for 6 months.

I'm not sure what you try to apply for.
