Hi, would love some advice please. I have a 1 year ED visa, but I need to renew my British passport before my next visa stamp because I have no pages left. I have downloaded the forms from the UK Gov passport website, but I'm a little confused as to whether I need to post the renewal application somewhere, or do I need to travel to Bangkok with the forms and apply in person? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user seeks advice on the process of renewing their UK passport while holding a 1-year ED visa in Thailand. They need clarity on whether to submit the renewal application via post or in person at the embassy in Bangkok. Comments from others indicate that passport renewals are handled by VFS Global in Bangkok, with many sharing their experiences of the renewal process, including keeping the old passport during renewal and transferring visa information to the new passport.
You will get up to 10yrs and 9 months on a UK passport by renewing it early.

On this subject , my UK passport is due to expire in October , question , can you renew a passport at any time , and if I apply for a 10 year say this week , would I get 10 years + months still remaining ?
Plus Iโm please to hear that I keep the passport with me and only give embassy / agent ( dependent on which route I take ) copies of said passport , is that correct
( I have a long term โ pension โ visa , ) I then take to immigration on my next 90 day , or before and they will transfer all the visa info / stamps ?
nice one cheers Steve , btw , is the rest of my statement correct ?

You can renew a UK passport anytime, I think it's maximum of 9 months added to the new passport provided your existing passport has more than 9 months validity

UK passport renewals are done by the company VFS Global on Soi 13 Sukhumvit Road Bangkok.
This happened to me - I had to make an appt to apply for a passport in Bangkok - all done by email - easy efficient and they have photocopy scan and photo services there too - they notify you when it is ready for collection - they wouldn't send in the post but you can give written authorization for someone else to collect on your behalf - it left me with no visa to show for 6 weeks but no problem
I had to change the old ED visa to the new passport at immigration for a fee of 500thb
, all the snipped passport means is you can't use it for international travel. ANY visas and/or extensions in it would be valid until you got your new passport and transferred the stamps at the immigration office. ;)
