Hi, I'm in the process of submitting my OA application online. I've reached the point where I need to upload my documents. So far there has been no mention of a trailing spouse/dependent. At what point do I get to associate my wife's application with mine? Thanks in advance for any advice - I'm getting a little worried.

, when you and your wife enter thailand you will get stamped in for up to a year (or as long as your mandatory health insurance is valid for) and your wife will get stamped in for 90 days. THEN when she has 30 days or so left on that 90 day stamp you both go to the immigration office and she applies for an extension based on being the "trailing spouse" of you who holds the O-A visa/entry stamp. They should give her an extension for the same time your entry stamp is valid for.

Her O visa says...

Travel: Multiple

Visa Conditions: - (blank)

Date of Grant: 23 Dec 21

Visa must be used by: 22 Dec 22

Length of Stay in Thailand: 90 days.

Does this combination of Multiple entry and validity period mean that she would be stamped in for 90 days each time she enters from now until 22 Dec 2022? Assuming her health insurance covers the 90 days on each entry.

, you didn't need to apply for a year-long multi-entry Non-O for her either 🙁 just a 90 day single entry would have done the trick.

While the visa itself is valid for a year, each entry stamp is good only for 90 days <- SO if she doesn't go get the matching extension based on being the spouse of an OA visa holder, she's gotta leave the country and re-enter to get another 90 day stamp. AND she would have to do that the whole validity of that visa.

, I'm not sure there was any other option on the system. I wasn't expecting a year long multi entry. It just arrived that way.

It works for us anyway as our first visit will be for approx 1 month to find a place to live, open bank accounts, etc etc. Then we'll head back to India to ship our stuff to our new address.

Second visit will be the permanent move. Would it make any difference at the IO if she applies for the extension on the second entry rather than the first?

she can apply for an extension based on being the trailing spouse of an OA visa holder on ANY of the 90 day entries she gets off her O visa when she has 30 days or less left on the 90 day entry stamp 🙂

nope, none and in fact that is exactly what you should do is just come in, you get the year, she gets the 90 days and then if you're leaving that soon, don't even do ANYTHING for her extension until you come back. She'll get 90 days on entry until that visa expires, just like you'll get a year (or as long as your insurance is valid for)

Update: We followed the process above successfully. My 1 year OA visa took 4 days and my wife's 90 day O visa another 2 days based on mine. When we applied in London it wasn't necessary for my wife to upload a police report, health certificate, or health insurance. Had I known this in advance I would have saved quite a bit of cash so hope this info helps someone else.

You need to start a new application for her, with a note saying that she will be based on your OA visa. She will get a Non-Immigrant O visa.

I believe they would choose "visiting or staying with applicant's family resided in thailand (more than 60 days)"

yes you are correct, after the husband receives his. She can apply and put his e-visa as a supporting document

My wifes was approved without any extra docs or questions.

There is no way to link or apply at the same time.
