I have a question for Americans who got their NON O visa in the U.S. How did you open a Thai bank account in the U.S. to meet that requirement? Are there Thai banks that can do that in the U.S.?

TLDR : Answer Summary
Americans seeking to meet the financial requirements for a NON O visa in Thailand often inquire about opening a Thai bank account from the U.S. However, it is generally advised that you cannot open a Thai bank account while still in the U.S. Instead, you can use your U.S. bank account to fulfill initial requirements. After obtaining the NON O visa, you will need to enter Thailand, where you can then apply for a one-year extension. This extension will require you to deposit 400,000 THB in a Thai bank for at least 60 days prior to application.

Great, so non-Os can be obtained outside Thailand, thanks for wasting everyone's time.

@Frankie *******
if you have children that can go to an international school you can get non o visas out of Thailand and enter on correct visa

I did it in Koh samui
Michael ********
@Frankie *******
yes you can get Non O abroad and dont have to use Thai Bank to prove funds, you only need the money seasoned in Thai Bank when you do extension of stay
Frankie ********
I don’t believe you can get an O visa outside Thailand. You can only get an O-A visa aboard.
Robert **********
@Frankie *******
I’ve heard of people from UK getting what they call O visas but I have never seen it from the United States. We either come as tourists and convert to non O retirement, or get O-A visas in the United States.
Steve **********
@Robert *********
it is very common to get an O visa in the US
David ***********
@Frankie *******
You can get non-O (retirement) visas from some countries but not others.
Garrett ***********
@Fra****
I don't care what you believe....
Garrett ***********
@Fra****
Of course you can, all visas can be obtained outside Thailand.
David ***********
@Garrett **********
It's not true that "all visas can be obtained outside Thailand" ... for example, non-O (retirement) visas cannot be obtained in Australia.

I KNOW i have alreday done it IF YOU OPEN ACCOUT AFTER YOU GET HERE IT "HAS TO BE IN THE ACCOUNT FOR 60 DAYS lets assume it takes a week to set the acount up snd get funds tranferd THAT WILL LEAVE THREE WEEKS TP APPLY FOR EXTENSION OF STAY
Ian *********
Marine Melleks correct,open account asap your non o visa and a Thai as guarentor (that your of good character etc) might still have to walk in a few banks !

Open it in your 1st week you'll still have 3 weeks left on your non o visa to apply for extension
David ***********
@Ian ********
Open it in your 1st week you'll still have 3 weeks left on your non o visa to (HAVE TIME TO SEASON YOUR FUNDS) to apply for extension.
Garrett ***********
@I**
Non-O visas are 90 days.
Garrett ***********
Marine 400k for marriage, 800k for retirement
Mark ******
@Garrett **********
I "converted" my long time marriage O visa to a retirement O visa a couple of years ago. My local office has not changed the requirement to 800k, still 400k. I guess, like everything else with visas, it depends on the individual interpretation of your local Immigration office.
Garrett ***********
You cannot open a bank account from outside Thailand. Non-O visa obtained from a Thai Embassy in the US can be in a US bank account. Remember, a Non-O is a 90 day visa. Once you enter Thailand you'll need to apply for a 1 year extension, which requires the 800k baht to be in a Thai bank for 60 days before applying.
Micah ********
@Garrett **********
Must be different types of Non-O. I'm on a Non-O volunteer (with work permit; visa originally established abroad) and have never had to show bank statements.
Garrett ***********
@Mi***
Correct. While Education and volunteer visas are of the Non-O category, normally when we refer to Non-Os we're talking about retirement or marriage. A non-O based on retirement requires 800k baht, marriage requires 400k baht.

I have a question for you, I entered Thailand visa on arrival, got a Covid extension good till January 10th. Plan to apply for a retirement extension, how soon should I show up at immigration, can I wait till the 8th or 9th? Money is already seasoned. TIA
Lindsey **********
@Jeff ********
if you go before 20 Jan you can get another 60 day covid extension
Jeff *********
@Lindsey *********
may as well do another 60 days, I'll be going the first week of January. Thanks
Garrett ***********
@Je**
Where are you? Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket you can apply for extensions up to 45 days before your current stay expires. Most other offices is 30 days.
