Do I need to return to Thailand by my 90-day reporting date if I'm on a non-O visa?

ORIGINAL POSTER
I'm on a non-o visa (3 months + 12 months) and my first 90 day report on 23 Feb. I am returning to Australia to take care of some personal business. Should I return in time for the 1st report date?

TLDR : Answer Summary
You do not need to return to Thailand before your first 90-day report date if you leave the country on day 89 or earlier. The reporting requirement only applies to a continuous stay of 90 days. Upon your return, your reporting period will restart from day one, as long as you have a re-entry permit to maintain your visa status.

Essential you have a re entry permit before you leave otherwise your visa is cancelled as you exit the country.

90 day will begin fresh again on re entry.

Reporting is only required if you stay for 90 consecutive days in Thailand. If you leave on day 89 or earlier the need to report stops. It will restart at day 1 on your return. Just make sure you have a re-entry permit to keep your allowed to stay date “alive”.
