Hi! Im going tomorrow to apply for my Thai visa in Hanoi and my flight is on Friday. Im planning on leaving Thailand by land (Chiang Rai-Laos) but I have been told that I need an onward ticket both for my visa application and landing in Thailand and they don't take bus tickets as proof. So I was thinking about using FlyOnWard. I have two questions:

1. I would have to rent two tickets, one for the visa application and the other for when I land in Thailand, right? I see they are only good for 48 hours..

2. Have you heard of anyone having issues with this kind of tickets?

Oh and I have a Mexican passport. I hope I made sense, thanks :)!!!!

I remember reading on their FAQ section ages ago that they can do tickets lasting more than 48 hrs, so you wouldn't necessarily need two tickets - you should probably contact them. I can't imagine it should make much difference to them since they're just buying a ticket and cancelling it later.

Never used this company though - there are ways to achieve the same result that are both cheaper (free), easier (no intermediate company), and no more dishonest/fraudulent (IMO).

We are getting side tracked on the minutia of how or if or in what way the "proof of onward travel" requirement can be met.

Let's just leave it at that.. Hopefully people seeking visas are competent enough to make their own choices.. As well as being adult enough to suffer the consequences if things go sideways :O

The thai consulate in Hanoi will definitely want to see those 3 proof-of's:

onward travel within 60 days

20K baht

hotel booking

I don't think thailand will require anything at passport control when you fly in here. I mean they could ask for the same things, but I think you could show them the copy of the ticket you used in Hanoi and it'd be okay.

Corrected they are actually proper tickets as you can log into the airlines website and actually see things like your seat assignment etc, they are just being cancelled after 24 or 48 hrs. Having said that I dint recommend Flyonwards - I have used them and did not receive my ticket on 1 occasion and needed Paypal to intervene to get my refund.

The problem is Todd, like the TM30 business at Jomtien, it all eventually go's wrong. Because of people writing out there own rental agreements in order to get a residents permit or visa extension (You need a TM30 lodged) someone got caught and now the landlord or homeowner actually needs to attend at the first registration. I own my own place so don't effect me. Others renting from a landlord living abroad have a proper issue now.

Man of course Im aware of that, they are called rented tickets and there is a FAQ and disclaimer section on the website. And yes Im considering using the tickets as proof of exit so I get issued a visa, not to fly to another country. Once again, why should I go home if I want to use a rented ticket as proof of exit?

I can def afford a proper ticket sir, but I dont have a fixed plan; maybe I will go to Luang Prabang afterwards, maybe Siam Rep, probably Malaysia, no idea yet. What does affording to buy a proper ticket has anything to do with this and why should I go home because of this? Please elaborate.

Thanks a lot Tod and Ash I was thinking about buying a bus ticket to Cambodia but someone not so long ago in one of the SEA groups posted that they didn't take the bus ticket as proof when they landed to BKK.

thanks :)! Sorry Im a bit paranoid with Thailand. A friend of mine got locked in at the airport for 48 hours, she was doing a layover in Thailand. I think she didnt have a transit visa or can't remember what the issue was :s
