As a Brit currently living in Malaysia, can someone please confirm that for a 60 day Thai visa I must do it in person at the Thai embassy and cannot do it online. And that I can extend for a further 30 days once I’m in Phuket? Many thanks for your help in advance.

I don’t know if you’re able to apply online, but you could make an appointment online and often pick up your passport the day after or after two days.

Yes at the border you can just do a visa bounce and get 30 visa exemption. Visa has to be applied at embassies or consulates.

The 6 month multiple entry TR60 is a good choice for long term stays. Requires 2 border run exits, or 1 extension and 1 exit in 6 months.

Thanks Tom. I shall most certainly bear this in mind. I'm hanging fire on retiring to Thailand as I have lived and worked in Malaysia for 40 years, and until they get their act together with their MM2H retirement programme, I am here in KL as a tourist. So if that revised scheme doesn't materialise soon, then I shall be retiring to Thailand.

no. The system doesn't even look at your IP address. But you have to show them a plane ticket from the country you're applying from to Thailand. There's also a section of the application for proof of where you are.

Yes you must do it in person. The Thai embassies/consulates in Malaysia have not adopted evisa yet.

If you have a tourist visa you'll receive a 60 day entry stamp when you arrive and you're eligible to apply one time for a 30 day extension
