hi group I want to live permanently in Thailand next year with my Thai wife. I plan to go there with a non o visa based on marriage. I will have 400.000 baht in my Thai account. My problem is the required health insurance which is very expensive for me. Any possibility to avoid this? I have a friend who has lived with his Thai wife for many years and he gets his permission to stay renewed every year without health insurance - an agent take care of that.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks to live permanently in Thailand with their Thai wife on a Non-O visa based on their marriage but is concerned about the expensive health insurance requirement. Community responses clarify that there is no mandatory health insurance requirement for the Non-O visa based on marriage, although having it is advised. It is mentioned that insurance is typically required for a Non-OA visa, which is different and requires coverage for the entire duration.

ok now understand and thats why you need insurance as you are getting visa in your home country. If you apply for non o in Thailand đčđ you wouldn't require insurance but you would need 800k Thai baht in a thai bank 3 months for applying for it đ
stated there is no requirement for medical insurance for a non O based on marriage (or extensions of such). Whilst itâs always good to have some itâs not mandatory.

Always good to have medical insurance. Unexpected events happen when you least expect it.

I don't know who told you there's a requirement for health insurance on a marriage visa extension, but there isn't. Maybe the agent said it just to keep business?
I don't remember where I saw this but I saw it on different web sites - good to know it is not an requirement - and was just told in this group that I could get insurance for public hospitals much cheaper than the prices I have seen
