TLDR : Answer Summary
Individuals holding a Non-Immigrant Multi-Entry O Visa can apply for extensions after their initial 90 days if they meet certain requirements. Extensions can be granted for specific reasons such as for visiting family, but other short-term extensions are not applicable on this visa type.
You can apply for a couple of types of extensions on the entry stamp on the Multiple (or single) Entry Non-Immigrant Visa if you can meet the requirements.
1-year extension for the same reason as the visa itself
OR
60 days visiting Thai family extension
But you cannot apply for other short-term extensions (30 ~ 90 days) on Non-O visa entry.
my friend is telling me she does not need to leave to get another stamp after 90 days which I think is wrong . They are not extending for a year . They are trying to get 179 days in the country for this year going back to Germany end of March , entering October 5th . In the US the Thai Embassy does not issue multiple entry Non -O because I tried in 2019 . Perhaps things have changed or are different in Germany ?
she's totally wrong, a year long multi-entry Non-Imm-O visa is good for a 90 day entry stamp, then you exit/re-enter to get a new 90 day stamp OR you apply for a year extension by meeting the requirements based on why you got the Non-O
