Hello everyone, I hope you are all well. I am flying to Laos tomorrow to visit Vientiane and to get a Visa exempt coming back to Thailand. Can you please tell me if I can exchange euros to dollars at the Don Mueang Airport? I knew I could get a visa on arrival in Vientiane however I didn't realise until yesterday that they only accept US$. I'll be in Bangkok this afternoon so perhaps I can look for a SuperRich somewhere near my hotel, too (Sukumvit area). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is flying to Laos for a visa-exempt entry back into Thailand and inquires about exchanging euros to US dollars at Don Mueang Airport. Comments suggest that while there is limited currency exchange competition at the airport, it's recommended to use Thai Baht directly for better conversion rates. Additionally, it's noted that Laos allows payment for a visa on arrival in Thai Baht, and there are ATMs at Wattay airport for cash withdrawal.
You can use ATM'S there but Don't get to much laos money (Kip) as most exchanges don't like trading with it, so you might end up being stuck with a lot of Kip thats useless anywhere else.
Hi Steve, yeah, I found that out when I was getting the voa in Vientiane. I’ll know better next time. Thanks and have a great day!

I did e-visa which is paid in advance, but I did spot an ATM machine located immediately next to the VOA processing area at Wattay airport when I passed through a couple weeks ago, so even in a pinch you can get cash there.
have you tried inside the city of vientiane? was just there myself, only way is through a bank, and if its closed or a holiday ur screwed unless you use a taxi driver.
It won't be cheap. There aren't any competitive exchangers there, and you need two conversions to make it work. How are you normally getting THB? If that is without incurring excessive cost, better use THB to make the switch.

You're right. I have been getting my THB by exchanging euros and once at the ATM machine. But you are definitely right. Exchanging THB to dollars will probably get me a better rate. Thank you.
well it was part of your plan anyways, I'm just suggesting to skip one of the two conversions. But it could indeed help you a little if you get THB by exchanging euros at a more competitive place.
Why not get USD while still in town?

Hi Bart, I was also thinking of getting the USD in Bangkok. Someone told me that SuperRich is the best place in the city to exchange money and, if I'm not mistaken, they stay open quite late so that will probably be my best bet. Thanks again for the advice. I appreciate it.
