Hello there. I’m in the process of putting in an application for a guardian and student visa for myself and my son with the Thai Embassy based in Singapore. One of the requirements is a proof of heath insurance for the duration of our stay in BKK. By that I assume a one year insurance renewable every year along with the visa. I’m currently in Singapore… can I buy an insurance for Thailand outside of Thailand? I don’t need a massive package just a package that fulfills minimal requirements of USD100k.  Who can I speak to with regards to this? Any recommendations? Thank you.

They only take calls in the afternoon between 2-5. You can ask questions. You just have to fill in the forms online to apply. Trust me you would have questions.. 😂

you need to fill in visa application form which is available on the thai embassy website and submit a bunch of documents. Once they have reviewed it they will let you know what next steps. If all documents are on order they will ask you to see you with the originals. I uploaded my docos last Saturday,saw them today and will get my visa next Wednesday. It’s pretty straightforward. Where are you based?

Singapore interpret insurance stupidly they didnt want to give me my COE without 1 years insurance even though had only 5 weeks left on my visa.

The Dragon lady and there is no telling her even you show her the rules.

It might be worth checking with the embassy as their list of requirements may not have been updated. As an example the evisa system used by many embassies world wide still asks for insurance but the London embassy specifically has a notice on its website stating it is no longer needed.

You usually need to buy your Thai insurance before you enter the country, so now would be a good time. Try Mr Prakan, I’ve heard good things.

That must be embassy specific as there is no requirement for insurance for entry with those visa types. Lots of agents on here. I’m sure you’ll get a flood of offers in your PM box. Absolutely nothing stopping you getting insurance for Thailand outside of Thailand.

Stuart - so you know I just spoke with the Thai embassy in Singapore. They have confirmed that they have dropped the visa requirements - would have been good if they would all amend this on their website...LOL. Anyhow thought I should just share this info with you since you had been is helpful and can pass this on. Cheers!!

Thanks Stuart. You are right...I think its embassy specific, which is odd. The insurance agencies only states visa for OX and OA but not Ed and O visa which myself and my son is on. But on the Singapore embassy website they are asking that we submit proof of insurance, so I'm assuming we need to buy one. It is odd that there is no one common understanding.
