I might get laughed at, but I have a flight booked in 20 days from Australia to Thailand and I dont have a visa yet, I'm wanting the Special Tourist Visa (90 days) it is possible to apply on arrival or does it have to be through an embassy, if so is it too late to apply now if Im flying in 20 days?
Thankyou

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a flight to Thailand in 20 days but has not yet applied for a visa and is inquiring whether they can apply for the Special Tourist Visa (STV) on arrival or if they must do so through an embassy. Responses clarify that the STV must be applied for in their home country (Australia) and suggest applying as soon as possible. Comments provide additional advice about visa options and ongoing travel restrictions due to COVID-19.
Get the TR visa in OZ and when in country there is many options to stay longer. I am doing the same thing. The TR visa can be given to you fast b/c not many Australians applying for VISAS or leaving. Even by post; Melbourne->Canberra I got mine in 8 days including w/e. If you do go Post use Express Post envelopes both ways for next day delivery, this will save you postal time.
Generally speaking 3-4 weeks from your departure date is plenty of time to apply for the visa. If you still need to get the CoE when you go, you'll need the TR Visa first before you get the CoE.
can I ask how you are getting out ! Borders still closed did you get an exemption ? Iβm in Australia π¦πΊ have flight booked for February thought it would be easy then ! Just wondering! Iβm going to just use the visa exemption 30days and go to office in Phuket and extend 30 days ? Cheers goodluck
Theres no point of waiting, australia will never open again.
As for getting out, make sure you've got shitloads of money because you will be locked out of australia permanently because of flight caps unless you are able to afford a $13,000 business class ticket.
yeah will call it last min ! On go or no go ! Nah we will be open for Xmas ! Trust me π! Itβs all go ! NSW will open up pretty soon I think π€ might go for the retirement visa and stay ?
Yes, NSW new Premier is the last glimmer of hope, but still highly unlikely given Australias horrific track record. Yes retirement visa is a great option for those who are eligible.

Stay home, lots of covid on these flights, or maybe take ur chances catching it... π
So it's a conspiracy theory that I survived from covid? You need urgent psychiatric help. Stop cowering in the corner scared of the flu for 5 seconds and take a look at yourself.
Whatever he said is irrelevant, he's currently sending those messages from the shared computer in a psychiatric institution. His opinion is just that, a rambling opinion of a paranoid individual who is currently under observation.

You apply for the visa online now
Here's the Sydney thai consulate website it tells you how you apply for the STV

If you run out of time to obtain a visa you can arrive in Thailand with a visa-exempt entry which will get you 30 day permission to stay which can be extended another 30 days. From the visa-exempt entry you can apply for other extensions of stay. It's no worse than the Tourist Visa (except the tourist visa gets you 60 days permission to stay instead of only 30 for visa-exempt).
thankyou for the reply. Okay so the STV is way too complex for my circumstances (leaving in 19 days) are there any other options for me to just get the regular tourist visa then extend it to a different visa later while im in thailand? I'm wanting to stay 6-9 months.
Naaah, you'd be looking anywhere from 10k-60k for a year, depending on the type of school and visa (if you're attending class or just want the visa) and where you are in the country.
I can point you in a couple directions mate. Shoot me a PM when you're ready. I'd wait until you have 30 days left on your entry stamp to start making a move.
