I have the DTV, and now want the foreigner ID card. Google tells me I need to have a permanent place of residence in order to apply, but I don't yet have that as im just in a 3 months rental at the moment. Does this rule me out from getting the ID?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A DTV visa holder cannot obtain a foreigner ID card without having a yellow house book, which requires having a permanent place of residence. As temporary rentals generally prevent obtaining this yellow book, a DTV holder is likely ineligible for the pink ID card. Other alternatives like a Thai driver's license can serve as identification for daily use.

Foreigner ID card... you dream... you don't get any security here... there is only one thing you can count on: šŸ¤£šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤£šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤£

If ur gf adds you to her house ownership does that count

You can't.

You canā€™t even get a bank account on DTV

I did in Decemberā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ I know itā€™s changed over the last week but you will still be able to once the dust settles

many will find their accounts shut down if not on a resident class visa imo - back door access via visa agents etc

I do not see them shutting down accounts but you will need to supply country of Tax Residence and TIN. If no TIN then why not. If info not supplied I can see accounts frozen and closed in future.

I disagreeā€¦.. only people using them for the wrong things.

Even this last crack down they are still saying foreigners can in fact open banks. There is no law against it. They are just cracking down and ensuring everyoneā€™s info matches and itā€™s all correct āœ…

Okay to get that (not that useful in real life) pink i/d card for foreigners you FIRST have to get a yellow house book. <- That is a book for the property you live at that only lists foreigners in it (it does not convey ownership, only lists foreigners who stay at that property ; thaiz get in a blue house book)

Sad thing is IF you rent your place (even on a long term lease) most landlords (property owners) will NOT let you get a yellow house book.

On a 3 month short term rental you're not gonna get that yellow book and that means you're not gonna get the pink i/d card either šŸ˜•

Get a thai driver's license and that's all you'll ever need for a "thai i/d" šŸ™‚

if you can get the yellow book, can you get the pink ID on DTV?
Tod *********
@Wesley *******
you get the yellow book and the pink i/d card from the same place so I would say, you most likely could indeed.. The trick will be getting a yellow book while on a DTV

Iā€™m in talks with the local Amphoe and they seem to be fine with my DTV for the yellow book. Just waiting to get some documents translated and certified
Tod *********
@Wesley *******
post back and let the group know if you indeed can get listed on the yellow house book for the property you live at

AND

if you do get the yellow book, don't forget to ask the Amphur at the same time if you can get the pink i/d card for foreigners. It's 60 baht

yeah agree. I have both yellow book and pink ID card. It did help at a few national parks but thatā€™s about it. Dirt cheap though and may come in handy in the future. šŸ˜€šŸ‘

Youā€™re gonna have to open your cheque book and buy a condoā€¦ā€¦.

@Jef *******
Even then I doubt a DTV qualifies. It is not a long stay visa
Jef ********
@Greg *******
yeah true , from my research that I did, I put it in the 2 hard basketā€¦. There is literally no reason to have it. Once you have a bank account and drivers license.

The only benefit I can see in it is not needing a residence certificate if you ever need one.

@Jef *******
Same with PR. A few of us in the office qualified but I saw no advantages. Our tax bills would have also doubled. Same in Singapore. As a single guy PR made no sense for me.

I doubt very much a DTV holder qualifies for a Pink ID Card

Who can get a pink ID card?

Foreign nationals with permanent residency

Long-stay expats with Non-Immigrant O visas

Foreign workers, including Myanmar nationals

What can I use the pink ID card for? Access healthcare, Enroll in national parks, Use other government services, Apply for a mobile phone contract, and Open a bank account.

How do I apply for a pink ID card?

You need a Thai ID number

Your name must appear in a Yellow House Registration book or a Blue House Registration book

You may need to provide documentation proving your identity, such as a passport or birth certificate

I don't think you can get the ID card unless you are married to a Thai or have purchased a condo as you first need to get a yellow house book but the requirements for obtaining the house book vary by area so best to ask your local office. On a tourist visa like the DTV I can't see another way for you. A Thai driving licence is accepted as ID virtually everywhere
