, citizens of places like Thailand have trouble because there is such a precedent of Thais going to the USA with visitor visa, who end up staying for years (when it’s a max 6 months) working in the country..when they leave, they get out Scot free, granted they will never get another visa, but they face no legal punishment because no one is checked for visa status when leaving the USA

Many many countries give visitors the benefit of the doubt. I can’t even count all the visa overstayers I have met in the states, you know why? Because when you leave, no one checks to see if you over stay or not..

Yea, most people seem to just get ED visas and proceed to abuse the system but not actually studying.

I think honestly rules change changwat to changwat...nothing seems uniform

Find a job, get sponsored. Or!! Get married. You can also get an elite visa if you have the money. Otherwise, you will just undoubtedly be playing the “what’s my next visa going to be” game indefinitely..

. people dont seem to understand that concept. Lot of the time the same people who can't or won't learn to speak Thai are the same ones who complain about immigrants in their home country who dont learn the native language or ''assimilate"....but they never seem to see the irony....the very same folks who scream about multiculturalism being bad in their own countries, have no problem coming here and simply refusing to learn a lick of the local tongue/have no interest in learning about the culture they are living in.

do you have any intention of studying or just doing the ED visa where you just go and sign your name once a month.?

I am under the impression that you cannot hold a work permit with an elite visa as it’s basically a glorified tourist visa…

Lucky folks who have no other options for long term stay here otherwise…..COVID visa is a lifeline

Lots of people are definitely not happy that the unlimited 90 day border runs are no longer an option...
